The industry debunked ‘DIY’ years ago, yet the concept remains a romanticized, religious idea for many artists and companies. More and more, that’s proving to be an expensive belief, especially when it overloads, distracts, and demoralizes artists who need to be focused on their art first-and-foremost.

Los Angeles Location Only
Last night, you may experienced the early closure of the MyStudio booth in Culver City. Technical difficulties happen… and unfortunately under Murphy’s Law, they happen at the worst time. Show Name: Hairspray
Venue/Theater: Mesa Arts Center (Mesa, Arizona)
Production Company/Director: Mesa Encore Theatre/Kyle C. Greene
How to Audition: Submit a video link. Please email kylecgreene@gmail.com and attach a YouTube link with an audition (16 bars of a musical theatre song)
Other Details You Need to Know: What’s a pit singer, you ask? A pit singer is a vocalist who sings backstage to help support the onstage vocals. Because you never appear in front of the audience, you can dress casually and use your vocal score while you sing into your microphone!
Tuesday, April 24th at 7pm is the first vocal rehearsal. Pit singers will only be required to attend rehearsal once a week until Hairspray tech week. Weekly rehearsals will likely be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Our show Opens May 25th and run two weekends (Thursday, Friday, Saturday Matinee, Saturday Evening and Sunday Matinee).
For those who join us offstage, we hope you can join us for any cast-related events such as cast parties, post-show dinners and anything else exciting that happens with our fun group. All pit singers will receive two complimentary tickets to any night of the show. You will be required at the theatre only 45 minutes before the show begins.
